Structure of huge protein complex in methane-producing microbes revealed

Researchers determined the architecture of the 8 MDa Hdr–Vhu–Fwd super-assembly, a key enzyme complex in class I methanogens. This structural insight advances understanding of how these archaea produce methane, a potent greenhouse gas, and could inform efforts to harness or mitigate microbial methane generation.
