Aneuploidy may drive acquisition of cancer-causing genes in breast cancer
Researchers from Nature report that aneuploidy—an abnormal number of chromosomes—facilitates the accumulation of driver gene mutations in breast cancer cells. This finding suggests that chromosomal instability itself can promote tumor evolution by enabling the emergence of key oncogenic alterations. The study provides new insight into how breast cancers develop and potentially resist treatment.
