Squandering LEDs' Potential to Preserve Dark Night Skies
Many cities have adopted LED streetlights for energy savings, but poor design and excessive brightness are worsening light pollution rather than reducing it. This squanders the potential of properly directed and dimmed LEDs to protect night skies for astronomy, wildlife, and human health. The article argues that we are missing a key opportunity to mitigate skyglow through better lighting practices.
